Bruno de Bernardi

Past President of SIOPEN 2001-2004

Bruno de Bernardi graduated in 1965 in Medicine from the University of Padova and subsequently trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York before returning to Giannina Gaslini Children's Hospital in Genova, Italy. He was instrumental in creating SIOPEN and was President in 2001-4. He is currently based in the Department of Hematology-Oncology, Giannina Gaslini Children's Hospital, Genova.


Ruth Ladenstein

Past President of SIOPEN 2007–2011

Professor Ruth Ladenstein is currently a consultant paediatric oncologist at the St. Anna Children's Hospital and lecturer at the Medical University of Vienna. She runs the Clinical Trial Unit at the the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) for Paediatric haemtological/oncological indications in Austria. As SIOP Europe’s former president and chair of the SIOPE European Paediatric Research Council, she is also a member of the SIOPE Board. Her major EU projects are SIOPEN-R-NET (, ENCCA ( and ExPO-r-NET (successfully funded, start in 2014).


Jean Michon

Past President of SIOPEN 1998-2001

Dr Jean Michon has been Head of the Paediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Department of Curie Institute in Paris since 2002. He was elected a chairman of the SFCE (Société Française des Cancers de l'Enfant) in December 2011.


Andy Pearson

Past President of SIOPEN 1998-2001 and 2005-2007

Professor Andy Pearson was the Founding Chair of SIOPEN and Co-Founding Chair of INRG (Interntational Neuroblastoma Risk Group) consortium. He is currently Cancer Research UK Professor Paediatric Oncology, Head of Paediatric Drug Development and Paediatric Research Lead at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.


Peppy Brock

Past President of SIOPEN 2012-2014

Dr Penelope Brock has recently retired as a Consultant Oncologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the UCL Institute of Child Health in London. She was previously Assistant Professor of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium.
