Pharmacology

medicines.jpg

The Pharmacology Committee is chaired by Drs Gareth Veal and Giles Vassal. The committee's role is to promote studies that improve our understanding of the clinical pharmacology of medicines used for the treatment of neuroblastoma. This means understanding how these medicines are absorbed, how they are processed by the body (often by the liver) and how they are then excreted (usually either in the urine or stools). Treating young children with neuroblastoma can be particularly complicated and extra care needs to be taken to ensure that doses for young children are adjusted appropriately. Studies performed by SIOPEN have helped to improve our understanding of these important questions.
