Dr Gudrun Schleiermacher is a paediatric oncologist at the Department of Paediatric Oncology of Institut Curie, Paris. She is also group leader of the Translational Research in Paediatric Oncology team of the Research Centre and Transfer Department of Institut Curie, Paris.

Dr Julia Balaguer is the newly appointed representative for Spain.

Juliet Gray

Juliet Gray

Representative for UK 

Dr Juliet Gray is currently an Associate Professor and Consultant in Paediatric Oncology at the University of Southampton. She has an active research interest in neuroblastoma immunotherapy and is the UK lead for the Long-Term Infusion Study. She took over from Dr Kate Wheeler at National Deputy for the UK in March 2016.


Andrea di Cataldo

Representative for Italy

Andrea Di Cataldo is Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Catania. He works in Catania, at the Policlinico Hospital in the Unit of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology where he is responsible for patients with solid tumours. He is Principal Investigator for the Intermediate Risk part of SIOPEN LINES protocol. He is member of the Neuroblastoma Workgroup of the Italian Association of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, has been National Coordinator for SIOPEN Infant NB protocol and now for Intermediate Risk of LINES protocol.


Tom Boterberg

Representative for Belgium

Dr Tom Boterberg is the new representative for Belgium. He is a radiation oncologist at the Department of Radiation Oncology and Experimental Cancer Research of Ghent University Hospital. He is a founding member of SIOPEN and chairman of the radiotherapy committee.


Holger Lode

Representative for Germany

Holger N. Lode, MD was appointed Professor and Managing Director of General Paediatrics and Paediatric Haematology and Oncology in 2009 and has been Managing Director of the University Children‘s Hospital in Greifswald since 2010. He held clinical and academic positions at Eberhard Karls Universität, Tùˆbingen, and at Brown University, Providence, RI, USA from 1986 to 1996 and at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, USA from 1996-2000. He then pursued a clinical and academic career at the Charité University Medicine Berlin and holds the paediatric board in addition to two paediatric subspecialties in paediatric intensive care and paediatric haematology/oncology. He was awarded an Emmy Noether Research Fellowship from the German Research Foundation and established a group of young investigators dedicated to the immunotherapy of neuroblastoma and received several young investigator awards and the Heinrich Finkelstein Prize of the North German Society of Pediatrics, as well as a Merit Award of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. His clinical and scientific focus is immunotherapy of neuroblastoma where he published over 100 original papers in eminent international peer-reviewed journals. He leads the immunotherapy subcommittee within SIOPEN and is Chair of immunotherapy trials within SIOPEN since 2012.


Shifra Ash

Representative for Israel / Treasurer

Dr. Shifra Ash is the director of Day Care Unit, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Schneider Children’s Medical Center, Israel. Shifra Ash is leading a research project of Immunotherapy for neuroblastoma using bone marrow transplantation. She has been involved in  SIOPEN since 2002 as a HR-NBL-SIOPEN protocol Institutional PI and LNESG2 and LINES protocol National PI. She is the coordinator of the prospective study of spinal canal involvement in neuroblastoma.


Vassilios Papadakis

Representative for Greece, New Country Coordinator and Secretary

Dr Vassilios Papadakis is currently Director of the Department of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology at Agia Sofia Children's Hospital in Athens, Greece. His MD degree was from the University of Athens and he subsequently specialised with Board Certification in Paediatrics and Paediatric Haematology-Oncology at Columbia University, Cornell University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA before returning to Greece.
