The European SIOPEN Annual General Meeting on neuroblastoma that I had the responsibility of organising in Athens has successfully been concluded with the participation of over 200 delegates from the USA to Australia.

Facing the Acropolis at the Royal Olympic Hotel from 12 to 14 of October we presented, discussed and decided on the new prognostic markers, the results of our treatments, upcoming protocols in Europe and the US, new modes of therapies to follow the end of the current treatments, the long-term sequelae and how these can be ameliorated, as well as, issues of supportive care and palliative measures.

In our Congress untitled: Designing the Future, From Bench to Bedside there was extended presence and presentations from patient/parents and patient advocate organizations: Solving Kids Cancer, Zoe4Life, FLOGA Parents Association and Karkinaki. On 11/10 in Premeetings with pan-European participation there were discussions and planning on the issues of 1. Ototoxicity and 2. The new Prognostic Markers/ use of Liquid Biopsies. Despite the excellent weather the conference rooms were constantly full and during the official dinner, under the Attica sky and across the Acropolis, the delegates proved that good science goes hand to hand with good relationships and lots of fun and dance! We all continue in the constant fight for less treatment in low risk patients and more effective treatments for children affected by high risk children neuroblastoma.
