Aims

The aim of the FSC is to facilitate the partition of resources between structural needs and research within the SIOPEN community, to give advice on sustainability and to support the treasurer to: spend wisely, invest wisely, attract more fund resources, make collaborations, advise/guide the EC on the financial issues for SIOPEN.

Thanks to the revenues received from royalties and milestone payments from Dinutuximab Beta, the financial situation of the SIOPEN organization has changed during the last years. This allows SIOPEN to plan the use and allocation of resources to fulfill the objectives of the association and to reflect on a short and long-term sustainability strategy for SIOPEN as a nonprofit organization.

In order to function as a professional organization and speed up achieving the organization's goals, SIOPEN invests part of its funds in structural positions and also to support scientific projects from its members. Since 2021, the FSC evaluated the financial aspects of different projects related to the SIOPEN activity: income, expenditures, and financial position. The FSC considered the support of different requests /projects. The elected projects/ requests were presented to the SIOPEN EC by the head of the FSC for final decision. The following positions/SIOPEN projects were approved:

  • Bioportal (implementation, manager, and database running),

  • HRNBL2 manager,

  • Liquid biopsy and MMG projects (a liquid biopsy manager, a research assistant, setting up fit-for-purpose MMG reference centres, PAXgeneTM blood RNA tubes and sending samples),

  • Genome-wide study of unresectable, non MYCN amplified, unfavorable histology neuroblastomas in patients > 18 months of age.

The FSC will follow up on the financial evaluation of these projects.

For 2024, the FSC decided on a 400.000,0 Euro fund for projects for 2024. Following this decision, the FSC with the CTC and Translational research Committee developed a call for projects for SIOPEN. The scientific strength will be evaluated by CTC and/or Translational research Committee (with input from other committees if needed). The FSC will follow-up on the results achieved by these projects, decide on the future strategy and sustainability and update the financial forecast for the SIOPEN.
